Fatal Collision Kills 8-Year-Old on Scooter; Smyrna Police Invetsigating

SMYRNA, Del. – The Smyrna Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Monday afternoon, involving an electric scooter.

At 4:54 p.m. on Apr. 27, a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling westbound on Greens Branch Lane near Eagle Way. At the same time, an eight-year-old girl, riding an electric scooter, was traveling North on Eagle Way towards Greens Branch Lane. For circumstances still under investigation, police say the scooter and pick-up truck were involved in a collision.

The 8-year-old girl from Smyrna was taken to an area hospital, where she died. Her name is being withheld until her family is notified.

The driver of the Silverado, a 37-year-old man from Felton, was not injured.

The roadway was closed for an extended time while the scene was investigated and cleared. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has relevant information is asked to contact the Special Investigations Unit at 302-653-9217.
