Trial for former JMB High School principal postponed

SALISBURY, Md. – The trial of former James M. Bennett High School Principal Amy Eskridge has been postponed following a pre-trial conference in Wicomico County on Monday, February 3rd.

The jury trial was set to kick off on Monday, February 10th, however the defense filed a motion in Courtroom 2 of the Wicomico County Circuit Courthouse to postpone the trial because the lead investigator in the case has an important medical appointment on that day for treatment.  According to the court the investigator is having serious medical issues and the court believes those issues must be addressed first and foremost. The court tossed around the option of deposing the investigator, but because the investigator conducted a majority of the interviews in the case, they are a rebuttal witness for the defense and deposing the witness would not grant Eskridge’s defense team the opportunity to utilize the rebuttal witness.

The state opposed the motion to delay the trial any further, however because the investigator is such a necessary witness the court granted the postponement and offered up the possibility of setting multiple trial dates in the future to accommodate the medical needs of the investigator.

No future trial date has been set, as the parties will be working to come up with dates that work for everyone involved in the case.
