Delaware-Based Group Helps Food Bank
(MILFORD, Md) – At The Food Bank of Delaware in Milford, there are still plenty of pallets of food, both refrigerated and non-perishable, ready to help those struggling with food insecurity…
Part of that is thanks to Newark-based group, GOLO Foods, who have helped to provide over a million nutritious meals to groups across the country, with one of the recipients being the Food Bank.
“We know right now that 1 in 8 Delawareans is experiencing food insecurity. And that’s 1 in 6 Delaware children as well. And so these meals make an incredible impact in ensuring that we can get, hearty food, good food, to families that need it,” says Food Bank of Delaware Vice President of External Affairs, Chad Robinson.
GOLO Foods Co-Founder, Jennifer Brooks says she wants to help ease some of the pressure people might have been feeling in Lower Delaware when SNAP benefits were cut this past fall.
She tells WMDT, “Because of everything that’s happened in the last few months, you know, hoping that GOLO can maybe take away that one burden. Where’s the next meal coming from? You know, hopefully makes things easier for families.”
The idea was for GOLO to ensure they could help people get proper food in underserved areas of the First State.
“It’s really important for us to partnership with the food banks in Delaware and other organizations as well. And especially southern Delaware, to hopefully help ease the burden that southern Delaware faces,” says Brooks.
And the Food Bank is thankful for GOLO lending a hand.
Chad says, “It truly takes a village. And we could not do this on our own. The work we do each and every day, is lifted up and supported by our network of partner agencies, statewide…”
