Salisbury companies gave back to the community with 500 chicken dinners!
SALISBURY, Md. — Tuesday afternoon, Salisbury Police Department, Perdue, United Way, and other companies gave back to the community by handing out chicken dinners ahead of the holiday. Officials said that’s what it’s all about this holiday season.
Salisbury Police Chief David Meienschein said, “It’s an opportunity to give back to those who may not be able to provide for themselves or their families in these economic times. We really appreciate being a part of this effort.”
Over 500 chicken dinners were handed out at the Save-A-Lot in Salisbury over the course of 3 hours.
Executive Director of the Perdue Foundation, Kim Nechay, said, “It’s been a tough year, and the long line here shows there is a great need.”
Nechay said this is only one of many holiday events on the shore.
“We really pride ourselves on trying to deliver hope to our neighbors and all the communities that we call home,” she added.
that it warms her heart, working with the community to feed their next-door neighbors, Sgt. Thomas Hiddy agrees.
Salisbury Police Department, Sgt. Thomas Hiddy said, “This is a great opportunity. It really gives us an opportunity to come out and show that we recognize that there is a need and that we are an entity to come out and help facilitate that.”
The “Explorer” program through SPD allows students to work with the department. Nidia Beteta said volunteering at the event was eye-opening.
“It feels really nice because you get to be a part of something bigger,” she added, “this is just our way of saying thank you to our community for standing with us and just giving back to them. “
