13-Year-Old Arrested on Felony Charges for Threatening Smyrna Middle School
SMYRNA, Del. – The Smyrna Police Department (SPD) has arrested a 13-year-old Smyrna Middle School student on terroristic threatening charges following a verbal threat of violence made against the school.
On Thursday, Oct. 16, SPD’s School Resource Officer assigned to SMS was notified of a threat of violence against the school by a current student. Through a preliminary investigation, it was determined that a 13-year-old student from Smyrna made a verbal threat indicating a date he would get revenge for a previous incident and “shoot up the school”. SPD immediately contacted this student and removed him from the school while this threat was investigated.
On Friday, Oct. 17, SPD signed arrest warrants for the juvenile, charging him with terroristic threatening with intent to cause serious inconvenience to a school; a felony charge. The juvenile was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.
