UPDATE: Denton Police Chief Killed in Easton Car Crash with Delivery Truck; MSP Investigates

UPDATE: Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal crash in Easton that claimed the life of Denton Police Chief George Bacorn on Friday morning.

Shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 25, troopers from the Easton Barrack responded to the area of MD 331 (Dover Road) near Dover Neck Road for a reported crash. The preliminary investigation indicates that a Chevrolet Silverado and Chevrolet Tahoe were both traveling eastbound on MD 331 when a Ford Transit delivery truck, traveling westbound, crossed the center double-yellow line for unknown reasons and struck the side mirror of the Silverado. The delivery truck then continued westbound and struck the Tahoe head-on.

The driver of the Tahoe, identified as 62-year-old George William Bacorn Jr., was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency services personnel.

The driver of the delivery truck, identified as 31-year-old Antonio Jaquan Handy of Salisbury, was airlifted to a local trauma center. No other injuries were reported.

The roadway was closed for more than three hours while the Maryland State Police Crash Team began their active and ongoing investigation. Upon completion, the investigation will be presented to the Office of the State’s Attorney in Talbot County to determine whether charges will be filed.

DENTON, Md. – The Denton Police Department has announced the passing of Police Chief George Bacorn following a motor vehicle collision.

Chief Bacorn served as Chief for 36 years, and served as the head of the Maryland Municipal League Chiefs and Sheriffs Association this year.

“The Town extends its deepest condolences to Chief Bacorn’s family and the members of the Denton Police Department,” the agency wrote in a post on social media. “We ask the public to please respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time and keep his family, the Department, and the Town in their prayers.”

Governor Wes Moore has ordered all flags to be lowered to half-staff in Chief Bacorn’s honor.

“He embodied the meaning of serving others and dedicated his life to keeping communities safe for everyone,” the Governor wrote in a post to social media. “Denton, Caroline County, and all of Maryland is a better place because of his courage and public service.”

Details about the crash are limited at this time.
