Major House Fire in Salisbury; MD Fire Marshal Investigating

Salisbury House Fire

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury Fire Department and other local fire companies responded to a major house fire on Monday evening.

At approximately 5:33 p.m. on Oct. 13, over 50 firefighters responded to a two-story home on Oxbridge Drive for a report by homeowners of a structure fire. Smoke alarms were present and activated on the property.

Crews report that the fire took two hours to control, ultimately resulting in a partial collapse of the of the house in the area above the garage.  The total damages are estimated to be around $200,000.

The Salisbury Fire department was assisted by Hebron, Delmar, Fruitland, Mardela, and Parsonsburg.

“Crews arrived, found the garage area that was well involved with fire, confirmed all occupants were out, and began their attack on the fire. It had gotten into the actual house itself, up on the first and second floor, and then up into the attic where everything sustained substantial damage,” Salisbury Fire Chief Rob Frampton said.

The fire is believed to have originated in the home’s attached garage, but the preliminary cause is still under investigation.

People who were inside the house tell us that there were three explosions during the fire. Two cars were parked in the garage.

Only one occupant was treated on scene for smoke inhalation. Five individuals have been displaced as a result of the fire. Occupants of the house tell us they lived there for six years and are currently being assisted by the American Red Cross.
