Woman faces 35 charges after allegedly attempting to run over 7 people
SALISBURY, Md. – Jamie Hepperle, 34, is accused of attempting to run over seven people with her vehicle on Monday evening at approximately 6:57 p.m., near the 800 block of South Salisbury Boulevard, behind the former Rite Aid. According to court documents, the incident reportedly stemmed from a domestic dispute.
Celeste Savage, Executive Director of Halo Hope and Life Outreach, said, “It’s really kind of odd for around here. We run a pretty tight ship in this area, so it’s just really surprising to hear about it.”
Local business workers, learning what had taken place. General Manager at Crazy Louie’s Pawn Shop, Steven Kottman, said, “Obviously, something like that is shocking, you know, but at the same time, I think in this general area, certainly after hours, it can get a little bit rough.”
According to court documents, the evening started with an altercation in a hotel room between Hepperle and another subject. The pair would argue over a sexually transmitted disease before traveling to the 800 block of South Salisbury Boulevard.
That’s when Hepperle is accused of threatening people in the area with a 7-inch military style knife and attempting to repeatedly run over 7 people. According to court documents, “even hopping the curb” in the dangerous drive.
Enrique Gonzalez, a barber at the Salisbury Barber Shop, said, “That kind of aggressiveness. We don’t get to hear about that that much around here.”
Hepperle is then accused of fleeing to a nearby parking lot, her vehicle striking a red Jeep Cherokee before continuing on. Hepperle was later arrested, and is now facing 35 charges.
Local business workers are hoping that police will patrol the area more.
Kottman said, “They definitely hang out over there by the railroad crossing. They definitely hang out across the street where the fence is, you know, around where Rite Aid used to be. ” Gonzalez added, “Come up with a plan to get around the city and just clean up the area to make it a little bit more safe for people like children and just families that come.”
Court documents said Hepperle was interviewed by police about a sexual assault following the incident. She was also accused of throwing away the knife, which police never found. The Salisbury Police did not comment, as it is an ongoing investigation.
Hepperle is scheduled to appear in court on October 30th.
