Packing House Receives National Park Service Recognition

(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – A former factory in Cambridge is getting some national recognition.

Originally the Phillips Packing Company, The Packing House on Dorchester Avenue in Cambridge was designated as a Chesapeake Gateways site by the National Park Service Friday morning.

The 100 year old former factory was converted into a shared workspace, and the structure is still standing as a landmark of the community.

The 60 thousand square foot facility has been restored over the last few years, and now is having its history honored.

“It’s a celebration of the packing house history. And to bring that back to life with new uses based on its history. But to retain this, the building that was so important to the folks that experienced their life, their work through the Phillips Packing Company…” says Margaret Norfleet-Neff of Cross Street Partners.

Work on restoring the Packing House began in 2016.
