SALISBURY, Md. — Parkside High School is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and the school’s first principal returned to mark the milestone.

Students, staff, alumni, and community members gathered today to celebrate the school. Among them was Anthony “Tony” Sarbanes, who opened the school in 1975 and said being back felt like old times.

“It’s in your blood, you never really forget,” Sarbanes said. “I opened this school 50 years ago, and I’ve stayed involved one way or another. I even had grandchildren who went here.”

Since its opening, thousands of students have walked the halls of Parkside. Sarbanes shared a message with today’s students about the importance of education.

“Work as hard as you can in school,” he said. “It doesn’t make any difference what your friends do or other people do. It’s what you do. Because going to school will open doors.”

The school continues to serve as a cornerstone for the Salisbury community, marking half a century of education and growth.
