The Offshore Wind Alliance continues to show support

OCEAN CITY, Md. – The Maryland Association of Counties Conference featured a focus on another important topic: offshore wind.

The Offshore Wind Alliance is demonstrating support for the potential project off the coast of Ocean City.

U.S. Wind wants to build a turbine farm about 10 miles – to sea. The group believes the project would provide cleaner energy, lower electricity costs, and better opportunities for land use.

Rico Albacarys, the political director for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers’ Local 24, said the potential pros outweigh the cons. He adds that other states, such as Texas, are benefiting from economic growth.

“It’s not just the offshore installation and maintenance,” he said. “There is a lot of supply chain work, if you look in Texas, they are building vessels for offshore wind turbines, bringing tremendous economic boosts, the jobs, and really good working-class jobs for all these types of projects.”
