Cambridge Mayor and Police Chief Issue Statement on ICE in Community

(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – The City of Cambridge was buzzing with concern today, following rumors of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) sightings in the area.

Cambridge Police say they received word of ICE activity within city limits including arrests being made.

Chief Justin Todd tells us they received many calls from the community, each one voicing concern.

“Of course, on a federal level, and they work with targeted enforcement. And so therefore, we have no knowledge of it. We had not heard anything about them or heard from them,” says Chief Todd.

We also met with Cambridge Mayor, Lajan Cephas, and asked about the potential of the agency’s presence in the city.

While she is not able to confirm with us at this time that it is ICE, she has one big piece of advice for Cambridge residents.

She tells us, “My request, once again, is not to engage. You know, these agents that we perceive to be as ICE.”

Mayor Cephas has told us she has reached out to Congressman Andy Harris’ office.
