Delaware Gov. Meyer on Hand for Governor’s Day at Del. State Fair

(HARRINGTON, Del) – Throughout the day, Delaware Governor, Matt Meyer spoke with fairgoers and farmers young and old as the Governors Day festivities kicked off Thursday morning.
Governor Meyer told us in between the festivities, “It’s a celebration. Not just of our farms, not just of our industries, not just of our environment. And the efforts we’re making to to make life better and but really of our culture. Beautiful, unique Delaware culture. People here celebrating and having a good time.”
“I’d know that he is very focused on preserving the pillars of agriculture and creating and enhancing opportunities for new farmers, to follow in the footsteps of those that are currently on the ground,” says Delaware Secretary of Agriculture, Don Clifton.
And Zippy Duvall with the American Farm Bureau took the Governor’s interest as a positive sign for Delaware farmers.
Duvall says, “Well, it’s really important that the governor recognizes the largest industry in this state here in Delaware, be agriculture and to the point of, appointing an advisory committee to help him make the right decisions to make sure that those family farms can be sustainable…”
And with Meyer’s first Delaware State Fair as Governor in the books, that focus on agriculture will help bolster the state’s number one industry.
“It’s very important that the governor is here and supporting the message, that agriculture is still the number one industry. And we are the first conservationists…” says Clifton.
Governor Meyer says that while he doesn’t see the every day struggles that farmers in Delaware face, he wants his administration to extend an arm and an ear to listen to their problems.
