Over the Edge for ALICE event prep underway

SALISBURY, Md. – The United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore is preparing for its upcoming Over the Edge for ALICE event in May.

ALICE stands for those living “Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed,” and UWLES, along with their partners, work every day to help ALICE in the community access resources to help them move from barely surviving to thriving.

To aid in their mission, they’ve launched a peer-to-peer fundraising event where individuals are asked to raise 1,080 (for their 80th anniversary) to rappel from the Ross building in downtown Salisbury.

While it’s an exhilarating experience for rappelers, we’re told the dollars are making the biggest impact. “Our mission is to make sure there are youth opportunities, financial stability, better health opportunities for our neighbors, so that can look like everything from after-school programs, food pantries, to mental health counseling and everything in between,” says Ryan Jackson, Community Outreach Coordinator for UWLES. He goes on to explain, “These are your neighbors that are working second and third jobs and still struggling to meet their basic needs, so we’re doing this even to shine a light on that.”

The event takes place on Friday, May 2nd.  There will be a family-friendly event that will include a community block party.

There’s still time to sign up to be a rappeller and raise money, just head to their website. You can donate to a rappeller as well.
