Local police and a business help students prepare for new school year

While many would spend their Labor Day relaxing, one local business owner and police agency are choosing to do the opposite for what they says is a good cause.
On Labor Day, barbers trimmed and cut hair as Delaware State Troopers handed out school supplies, this was the scene at Pro Cutz Sports Barbershop in Lewes during a back to school event co-organized by DSP and a local barbershop.
Chester Hope, the owner of Pro Cutz Sports Barbershop says,”I love being able to give back to the community.”
Chester Hope and his staff were giving free back to school hair cuts. One family taking advantage of the free cuts were the Hamptons. Clarence Hampton admits between buying supplies and clothing for his children, getting ready for back to school can add up.
“Oh yea it gets expensive. Some people are out here struggling, and it is hard to get their kids a haircut and school supplies so it is a good event,” says Hampton.
Fifteen year old Shane Brittingham was also in line for a haircut. He tells 47 ABC, Monday’s event will allow him to feel confident as he takes on the new school year.
“I never like looking shabby or anything like that,” says Brittingham.
In addition to the cuts, was the presence of the Delaware State Police at this community event, which Hope tells us is needed in the community.
“It is really important to see police out in the community because they get a lot of negative publicity lately, but they’re humans just like we’re humans,” says Hope.
What’s even more important to to this community, is having the both come together for this labor of love.
“If I can help you I will help, it’s all about helping,” says Hope.
