Salisbury community comes together to remember Tyron Colbert

SALISBURY, Md. – It’s been a week since 10-year-old Tyron Colbert was shot and killed in his home and still, no arrests.

Pastor Craig Mitchell and his wife, Pastor Ashley Mitchell, hosted a prayer vigil on Unity Square, where they called on members of the Salisbury community to lean on each other and find hope during this difficult time.

“It reminds us of the reality that we’re not in control of everything, but there’s hope that when we come together and support each other, in the way that God would have us to do, then we’re able to get through some of the most difficult moments,” Pastor Ashley said.

The educator knew Tyron personally.

“I was actually his Sunday School teacher, and my daughters were in children’s ministry with him, so as an educator and a mother, it certainly hits home, just seeing the reality of how quickly life can fade away,” Pastor Ashley said.

Which is why keeping Tyron’s memory alive, and seeking justice, is that much more important for the two.

“While unfortunately Ty is one of the casualties of this pervasive issue, I believe with us coming together as a starting point, it’ll help us to further bring justice to this baby,” Pastor Ashley said.
