Blackwater Apothecary hosts fundraising event for PFLAG
SALISBURY, Md. – To show support for Salisbury PFLAG, Nicole Blackwater, owner of Blackwater Apothecary, took it back to the 80s and held a fabulous fundraiser.
Amid controversy surrounding the cancellation of the Pride Flag raising ceremony and the possible removal of the rainbow crosswalk in downtown Salisbury, Blackwater wanted to bring a little light to Salisbury PFLAG, with her throwback photoshoot event.
“We had this really fun idea to do 80s style glam shots, and we wanted to do something that’s fun and wacky, but also a little charitable, so all of our proceeds go to Salisbury PFLAG,” Blackwater said.
When photographer, Jennifer Campbell, heard about the idea, she jumped at the opportunity to get involved.
“I love doing anything that I can to help out the community and get involved,” Campbell said. “I’ve had a photography business for almost 20 years, and every once in a while, somebody comes up with a great idea.”
Glamming up all of the models, hairdresser, Alfred Brewer, said it’s events like these that help keep PFLAG running.
“PFLAG is important to us in the community because it helps not only further the rights for us, but to keep the rights that we have already in place, to give protections to people, like me and my husband,” Brewer said.
