City of Salisbury hosts GreenFest on the Riverwalk
SALISBURY, Md. – People in Salisbury on Saturday headed outdoors to celebrate the first ever GreenFest at the Riverwalk Amphitheater.
Members of the Salisbury Sustainability Advisory Committee say this event is a chance for people to celebrate the environment.
Some of the speakers at the event spoke about compost, soil health and how to grow your own vegetables.
Local resources like the Lower Shore Land Trust and the Wicomico Environmental Trust were also in attendance.
Salisbury Mayor Jake Day says he hopes events like GreenFest will help make the city more sustainable in the future.
“We’ve had a lot efforts made toward becoming a more and more sustainable community, we’re a certified Maryland sustainable community, and we believe that gathering people together getting people involved in that work whether it’s planting native plants, whether it’s taking care of bees, flora or fauna,” said Day.
“Really we just want to provide this information for people who may not know that these non-profits, these resources exist, and bring people together to have a really good time,” said the City of Salisbury Sustainability Coordinator, Alyssa Massey.
Massey also said she hopes this event will help kick off the summer season in the years to come.
