Officials investigating a fatal house fire in Seaford

SEAFORD, Del. – Officials are currently investigating a fatal fire that broke out at a residence in Seaford, earlier this morning.

The Delaware Fire Marshal’s office says members of the Seaford volunteer fire department responded to a structure fire at a home on Hearns Pond Road. Fire Fighters say upon arrival, they found the home to be covered in flames and heavy smoke.

Damage is estimated at $200000.

Chief Deputy John Galaska with the State Fire Marshal’s office says they found a deceased subject in the home while fighting the flames.

“A rescue attempt was made by Sussex county paramedic and the fire department which was not successful,” Galaska said. “We are here now with the State Fire Marshal’s Office major Incident Response Team and Delaware state Police working on finding the cause of the fire.”

A Sussex County Paramedic has been treated and released for injuries sustained during the rescue attempt. There were no other reported injuries.
