Former presidential yacht Sequoia docked in Cambridge
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – A special sight is docked in cambridge.
The former presidential yacht Sequoia is on the city’s waterfront, ready to be a part of the revival of the Richardson Maritime Museum. The yacht is a 104-foot motor cruising yacht. It’s first visit to the area was in 1935, when U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt traveled aboard to dedicate the original Choptank River Bridge.
The president of the museum says this project coming to the area has plenty of economic benefits. “It will take about 25 shipwrights and cabinet makers to totally rebuild this boat. It’s going to be great for tourism in Cambridge and also it’s going to create a lot of jobs,” said Martin Hardy.
The yacht is slated for a new bed of beams and blocks on the Richardson site in Cambridge Creek with renovations for display in the next 5 to 7 years.
