Historical school in Georgetown on its way to being restored

A historically black school in Georgetown could be one step closer to re-opening its door as a community center.
Members of the Richard Allen Coalition tell 47 ABC the restoration of the Richard Allen School building has been an ongoing project the past few years. They say the last year they've been meeting with consultants about the best way to preserve building.
Ivan Neal, a member of the Richard Allen Coalition, says the school was one of dozens of predominantly black schools opened by the DuPont family.
As of right now the coalition is in the process of raising funds to begin their restoration efforts of this Georgetown school that opened its doors in the 1920's.
"We are talking about roof replacement there has been sown mold issues within the building because of it sitting empty, there's some walls need to be removed and reconstructed," says Ivan Neal, a member of the Richard Allen Coalition.
The coalitions' next fundraising effort to benefit the school is a gala event that will take place Saturday, February 4th at the Cheer Center in Georgetown. Coalition members tell us they hope to open the center within the next two years.
