Car seat safety checks in Delaware
DELAWARE. – Car accidents are one of the leading causes of deaths for kids and a local agency is working to ensure children are properly strapped in – in the car.
It’s fitting, because it’s child passenger safety week. The Delaware Office of Highway Safety is hosting two free car seat safety checks.
Parents or guardians can bring their car seat, and have it checked out by professionals, to make sure it’s properly installed.
“In Delaware, 4 out of 5 car seats are being misused, and car seats are life saving devices,” Aubrey Klick, fitting station coordinator, said.
“To be able to do their job of saving children, they need to be used in the right way and at the right time. Even if you think you’re doing it right, and you come out and all we can tell you is ‘Way to go, you’re doing great’, at least you can know your child is safe.”
The checks will be held on Thursday from 9am-4pm at Smyrna Municipal Park and Saturday from 10am-2pm at Brecknock park.
