Rural Maryland Council grant to help Diakonia shelter with homeless case work
OCEAN CITY, MD- The Rural Maryland Council has announced its grant awards for the 2024 Fiscal Year, and on the list is a crucial software upgrade that is aimed at improving outcomes for social workers who work with the homeless population.
The program is helping to fund a $13,000 software upgrade for the Diakonia shelter, allowing a clearer flow of information, documents, and goals for homeless people in the shelter’s care.
“Frontline staff will be able to report on a daily basis, ‘this is what’s going on with this person, I followed up on this,’ the goal number one, is they’ll be able to put their service plans in there, and one of the great things about this software will be that the client themselves, the guest, could access their own portal just like a patient portal,” said Diakonia Director Ken Argot.
Argot tells 47ABC they want to help support the community they serve the best, and he tells us this smoother, digitized process can help make sure crucial deadlines are not missed when people they serve transition back to society.
