Salisbury Zoo officials issue warning after child enters exhibit

Salisbury Zoo

SALISBURY, Md. – A child entered a zoo enclosure Friday afternoon at the Zoo. Officials say a staff member saw the child from a distance and yelled at him not to go into the exhibit, but they were too far away to stop him. The child entered the South American yard enclosure, which houses the capybara, rheas and macaws.

Officials say the child’s mother went into the exhibit after the child. Fortunately the staff member was quickly able to get them out of the enclosure, with the help of another guest. No injuries were reported for both humans and animals.

Zoo officials are reminding all guests they are not allowed to enter any zoom animal’s exhibit or touch any zoo animal, for everyone’s safety. If you see someone enter an exhibit, you should notify staff immediately.
