Maryland receiving $29 million in federal funds for affordable housing

MARYLAND – The state of Maryland is receiving $29 million in federal funding to help with affordable housing and aid those facing homelessness. Md. Secretary of Housing and Community Development Jake Day says expanding affordable housing cannot just happen at a local level, or even a state level.

Secretary Day says the department needs more federal funding to make progress in the ultimate goal of ending homelessness.

“That’s our goal or primary objective,” said Secretary Day. “We believe that no one left behind applies to shelter, a roof over a person’s head, and we must begin with those in the most dire circumstances; those who are chronically homeless, particularly those of youth and veteran homeless.”

Secretary Day thanks Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen for securing the current funds available.
