Salisbury resources available for citizens as they re-enter society
SALISBURY, Md. — One of those programs that the state’s attorney’s office is involved in – is called LEAD.
That’s the Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion program.
They’re teaming up with the Wicomico County Health Department and the Salisbury Police Department to help released inmates who have served their time adjust back to society. Officials say this program is able to provide more specialized attention to each individual.
“So the lead program is different in that we provide intensive case management services to individuals – so where as a typical case management program or case manager may have a client load of 30 even 40 individuals this program is designed so that intensive case management services can be offered,” says LEAD Project Manager, Christina Bowie-Simpson.
Right now the LEAD program is by referral only. However in Salisbury Positive Reinforcements is a nonprofit that’s also helping the formally incarcerated re-enter society. This organization provides resources, case management, and mentors for support services. The organization’s CEO, Aprilstar Alexander says everyone deserves a second chance.
“Employment readiness, community service, anger management, parenting classes, both evidence-based programs, we have a budget and money managing so once they get out and get a job, they’re able to manage their finances,” the CEO says.
