Ocean City Sees Motorcycle Crashes During BikeFest
OCEAN CITY, Md. – The Ocean City Police Department responded to multiple motorcycle crashes on Thursday amidst this year’s ongoing OC Rock & Ride BikeFest.
On Sept. 10, just before 4:40 p.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle collision involving two motorcycles on northbound Coastal Highway. During the investigation, officers determined that a motorcycle turned onto Coastal Highway at 37th Street and into the path of another motorcycle that was traveling northbound on Coastal Highway.
The operator of the turning motorcycle was pronounced deceased by emergency medical services personnel after lifesaving efforts were attempted. The name of the deceased is not being released at this time due to notification of next of kin. The other operator was transported to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury with non-life-threatening injuries.
Northbound Coastal Highway, between 36th and 38th Street, was reduced to one lane of travel for nearly three and a half hours to allow the Traffic Safety Unit to conduct a collision reconstruction investigation. In a statement to WMDT, OCPD confirmed that their Traffic Safety Unit is still investigating the collision.
A second crash occurred later in the same evening on 118th Street. Two motorcycles were involved, but OCPD tells WMDT that only minor injuries were reported.
