Traffic stop leads to drug charges for Selbyville man
SELBYVILLE, Del. – A Selbyville man was taken into custody following a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon.
Shortly after 12 p.m., a trooper on patrol saw a blue Ford Focus traveling southbound on Roxana Road, approaching Polly Branch Road. The driver reportedly failed to signal while turning onto westbound Polly Branch Road and was seen using his cell phone and not wearing a seat belt.
The trooper stopped the vehicle on Lincoln Avenue and made contact with the driver and sole occupant, 20-year-old Jashaun Johnson. During the stop, Johnson was seen throwing a belted bag away from him that he had been wearing. When troopers recovered the bag, Johnson reportedly tried to flee on foot, but was taken into custody after a brief foot chase. A search resulted in the discovery of approximately 41.4 grams of cocaine, approximately 0.476 grams of heroin, drug paraphernalia, and more than $900 in suspected drug money.
Johnson was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a tier 3 quantity, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, resisting arrest, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, and several traffic offenses. He was later released on a $9,700 unsecured bond.
