Delaware Legislature Unveils Women’s Caucus

DOVER, Del. – The Delaware Legislative Assembly Wednesday announced the formation of the Legislative Women’s Caucus.

The new women’s caucus is set to make the state a better place for women to live, work. That caucus will be co-chaired by House Majority Leader Valerie Longhurst and Sen. Marie Pinkney. Rep. Melissa Minor-Brown and Sen. Kyle Evans Gay.

They say working as a group they’ll have more pressure to educate lawmakers and pass bills on gender disparities in education, health care affordability, and public safety and maternal mortality rates for women in the first state.

“We are going to have experts coming in we are going to have legislators providing information we are going to look at legislation to make this happen,” said Representative Valerie Longhurst adding “During my time in the Legislature, I’ve been fortunate to work alongside so many inspiring female colleagues and activists to pass historic measures like our Equal Rights Amendment, paid parental leave for state employees and teachers, protections for women in the workplace, at home, and at school, and much more.”

Also as part of the agenda, expanding paid family medical leave and tackling disparate healthcare outcomes in hospital systems in Delaware.

“There are thousands of lives at stake for the mothers in Delaware We cannot afford to wait any longer,” said Rep. Melissa Minor-Brown.
