Garage destroyed in Chestertown fire; no injuries reported

CHESTERTOWN, Md. (AP) — Firefighters from multiple agencies responded Saturday afternoon to a fully involved garage fire on Camp Road in Chestertown that destroyed a detached two-car garage but caused no injuries.
The Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company said crews were dispatched just after 4:30 p.m. after the Kent County 9-1-1 Center received multiple reports of a structure fire. A Working Fire Dispatch was automatically initiated, bringing additional personnel and apparatus to the scene.
Deputy Chief 6 arrived to find a fully involved 20-by-30-foot detached two-car garage. Fire officials said the blaze had not spread to the nearby home or surrounding structures.
Firefighters from Squad 6, supplied by Tanker 6, deployed an attack line and quickly began extinguishing the fire. Mutual aid companies assisted with fire suppression and overhaul operations, while EMS crews established a rehabilitation area to monitor firefighters operating in extreme heat.
Delmarva Power and the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
No civilians or emergency responders were injured.
While Chestertown crews remained committed to the fire, Goodwill Fire Company Engine 45 from Centreville relocated to provide coverage for the district. That unit was later dispatched to a crash with injuries in Kennedyville, prompting Community Fire Company of Millington Engine 2 to cover Chestertown. While responding to the station, that crew was diverted to a medical emergency, allowing emergency coverage to continue uninterrupted throughout the incident.
Fire crews cleared the scene at approximately 6:21 p.m.
