New Sussex Tech High School Opening Delayed to Fall 2028
GEORGETOWN, Del. – School officials have announced that the opening of the new Sussex Technical High School has been delayed until Sept. 2028.
Sussex County Vocational Technical School District made the announcement on Friday afternoon, saying their Construction Committee was first notified of the revised timeline last week.
The timeline adjustment is attributed to the district’s decision to accept an approved alternative construction. The new plan increases the size of the building to accommodate 1800 students; the current high school’s enrollment is 1375. Further, officials say sixty-five workdays were lost due to the extreme winter weather conditions from this year’s winter.
“The school needs to be open after it has been commissioned and prepared for the massive move from the current Sussex Tech High School,” said Superintendent Kevin Carson.
“In addition, while we want everything completed in a timely manner, we want the building to be completely ready before we take occupancy. [Richard Y. Johnson & Son] has done an outstanding job of moving the construction process forward of the new Sussex Technical High School.”
The school district says they will continue to work closely with their construction team to provide updates as construction continues.
