Tuesday was the last day for residents to hit the polls to vote for their next Mayor and Town Council, specifically the Eastern District.
Snow Hill residents hit the polls today to vote for their next mayor and town council.
Town Manager Rick Pollitt said voting is a necessity for a long-lasting and sustainable community. “The town is only as strong as the participation of its citizens, and we look for them to take a role. This is their responsibility, we always talk about rights as humans, but we have rights as citizens as well.”
Incumbent Janet Simpson and challenger Rob Hall are on the ballot for the mayor’s position.
Incumbent Edward S. Lee is running for the Eastern District Council seat, competing against Ethan Shockley.
Hall tells WMDT he is running on the premise of helping the entire community and not focusing on certain people. “It’s true that a rising tide raises all boats, but it makes a big difference if you are in a rowboat or a million dollar yacht.”
Unofficial machine results: 308 votes cast by machine.
For incumbent Janet Simpson, she says it’s important to continue the momentum she has pushed forward. “I’m going to continue my policy of encouraging business.” She has been a avid supporter of downtown revitalization.
