Lake Street Park Receives New Walking Trail

Salisbury, Md. – Construction is beginning of a new fitness trail in Lake Street Park.

Lake Street Park is being given a new walking and exercise path with the goal of expanding the city’s access to safe and walkable recreation space.
More than just a paved trail, the city will be installing eight stations throughout the trail, each with workout equipment. The trail will be placed along the existing fence line, ensuring the park holds dedicated spaces for activities.

“Give the community something to look forward to and do and is safe. There’s eight apparatuses starting from here going all the way around the perimeter of the actual fencing” says April Jackson, City Council President of Salisbury.

Jackson also says that this project comes as a way to bolster the quality of one of the biggest parks owned by the City.

The trail will be funded with the help of unused money from a federally granted coronavirus block grant. City representatives say the sudden use of COVID related funds comes because of a deadline set by the government to spend the grant. Association with this grant has also affected the design of the trail, emphasizing the use of social distancing as seen with spacing out the exercise equipment so that no one is too close.
Mayor Randy Taylor says this is an investment towards the city’s health and quality of life.

Construction is expected to end by the end of May.

Updates on the construction can be found on the city’s Facebook page
