Investigation Underway Following Trooper Involved Shooting in Chester
CHESTER, Md. – An active investigation is underway following a trooper involved shooting in Queen Anne’s County.
Around 3:40 p-m Thursday, Maryland State Police troopers from the Centreville Barrack responded to the unit block of Sherman Way in Chester for a man reportedly wielding a knife and making threats.
Once on scene, troopers met with the caller who reported the incident.
While a trooper was making contact with the caller, the suspect advanced toward the trooper with a knife.
The trooper then fired her gun, striking the man.
Medical treatment was immediately administered to the man shot and he was taken by air to a local trauma center.
There were no other injuries reported during the incident.
The trooper involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is leading the investigation in consultation with the Office of the State’s Attorney for Queen Anne’s County.
The Maryland State Police Internal Affairs Unit will also be conducting an investigation, as is procedure.
