Hebron fire fighters to celebrate 100 years of service
Salisbury, Md. – The Hebron Volunteer Fire Department is celebrating 100 years of service come Saturday, April 18.
Hebron Volunteer Fire Department President Pete Peterman spoke with WMDT and said Saturday’s event will feature a parade starting at 10 a.m., starting at Westside Intermediate and ending at the Hebron Ballpark.
He said the event will feature activities in the area of the carnival and an open house at the firehouse after the parade. Food will also be served and there will be live demonstrations by the fire department.
Peterman says to celebrate 100 years of service is “rare” in light of so many fire departments closing down because of a lack of volunteers.
“It takes a lot of commitment, and not just from the volunteer fire fighter’s side, but also from the family side,” he said. He said volunteer fire fighters work long hours and some times have to miss important life events with family, but that he still hopes more people volunteer.
“Hopefully we’ll get another 100 years out of Hebron,” he said.
Peterman says those who are interested in learning more about volunteering can do so by contacting the fire department. Those who would like to attend the event or participate in the parade can learn more at the fire department’s website or the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department’s Facebook page.
