Sen. Carozza leading push against Offshore Wind bills in final days of leg. session
MARYLAND – Maryland State Senator Mary Beth Carozza is keeping up the pressure against two bills that would bring offshore wind to the coastline of Ocean City.
The first bill would create an operational center for offshore maintenance in West Ocean City, which Senator Carozza says would impact shoaling efforts in the Ocean City inlet, and hurt fishermen and marinas currently zoned for that area.
The second bill would give developer US WIND more state funding to develop their turbines at a closer distance to the shore than the previous plan.
Senator Carozza tells us she is working to get her colleagues across the aisle to hear her concerns.
“Their latest application within the last year or so, you can see that their turbines are dramatically increased as large as four times the size of the largest building in Ocean City, and also that the distance has gone from 17 miles to 11 miles. So my colleagues are hearing from somebody on their committee to say, “Wait a minute, what you heard, in the beginning, has dramatically changed”,” Sen. Carozza said.
To further the public comments a meeting was held Monday night in WorWic for member of the community to voice their comment on the plan.
