Md. man extradited to Del., charged with murder of Harrington man
FELTON, Del. – A Maryland man has been charged for the murder of a man in Felton last month.
At around 4:15 p.m. on March 16th, troopers responded to a reported shooting in the 200 block of Reeves Crossing Road. Troopers arrived at the scene to find the victim, 36-year-old Charles Kupidlowski, in the roadway after being shot in the upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect, 36-year-old Steven Smith, had an ongoing dispute with the victim. Smith reportedly drove to Reeves Crossing Road to confront Kupidlowski, at which point he began shooting at him with a rifle. Smith then fled to his residence in Centreville and was later taken into custody by the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office.
On Wednesday, Smith was extradited from the Queen Anne’s County Detention Center to Troop 2 by state detectives with the Department of Justice Extradition Unit. Smith has been charged with first degree murder and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, and is being held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Center on a $1,060,000 cash bond.
