UPDATE: Maryland man arrested following fatal shooting in Felton

3/18 UPDATE: Police have identified the victim in this shooting as 36-year-old Charles Kupidlowski of Harrington, Delaware.

FELTON, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that killed one Thursday afternoon in Felton.

At around 4:15 p.m., troopers responded to a reported shooting in the 200 block of Reeves Crossing Road. Troopers arrived at the scene to find a 36-year-old man in the roadway who had been shot in his upper body. EMS personnel tried to treat the victim but he was later pronounced dead at the scene. Identification is pending notification of next of kin.

Detectives were able to determine that the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Steven Smith of Centreville, Maryland, had an ongoing dispute with the victim when he drove to Reeves Crossing Road to control the man. When he arrived, he began shooting at the victim with a rifle before fleeing back to his residence in Centreville,

Smith was later taken into custody at his home by the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office. Smith is currently incarcerated in Maryland and will be extradited to Delaware on first degree murder and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony charges.
