Local CPA provides tax tips before 1/23 filing day

What You Need

A local CPA say you should make sure you have all your materials on hand. That includes your W-2s, 1099s, social security statements, pension statements and K-1s. Tax forms should be delivered to you by the end of January 31st and no later than February 15th.

CPA Mark Welsh says this year there should be fewer delays as the IRS has hired more than 5,000 people to help taxpayers by phone with any questions.

How To File

Welsh adds that the way you file will control how fast you get your refund check. “The IRS is getting to the point now where I think it’s over 85% of all people are filing electronically, paper really slows it down. I understand a lot of people like that but you’re probably going to delay your refund by several months by doing that,” says Mark Welsh with UHY Group.

More Information

The IRS predicts that most Americans will get their return within 21 days of filing if there are no errors on the tax return. Welsh says to review your prior tax return (2021) to make sure you have everything. The last day to file your taxes is April 18th unless you get an extension. There are many platforms to file on, but if you make under $73,000 you can file for free on the IRS website.
