Traffic stop ends with weapons, drug charges for Dewey Beach man

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – A 32-year-old man from Dewey Beach is facing criminal charges following a traffic stop early Thursday morning.

Police say that shortly after 2 a.m., a Delaware State Police trooper was patrolling on Coastal Highway, north of Miller Road, when a black Chevrolet Cruze was observed speeding southbound on Coastal Highway. The trooper pulled the vehicle over in the Big Chill Surf Cantina parking lot.

Police say a strong odor of alcohol was coming from the vehicle when the trooper made contact with the driver, Andrew Vogt. A DUI investigation ensued, and Vogt was arrested without incident. Inside the vehicle, police found a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol, a 9.5″ knife, about 13.85 grams of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

Vogt is charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a firearm while under the influence, driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of marijuana, and speeding. He was arraigned and released on a $3,000 unsecured bond.
