Princess Anne New Years Muskrat Dive returns in-person

PRINCESS ANNE, Md- A New Year’s tradition is returning in person to Princess Anne. the 10th Annual New Year’s Dive will run from 10 pm to 12 am Friday, featuring a live DJ, free food, and gift cards to local restaurants.

“It’s a cool thing to work with our businesses owners some of them will be open tonight the Washington inn and tavern serving chili bowls and Squeeky’s will be open too,” said Main Street Manager Carrie Samis.

The last time the event had been in person was in 2019, with last year’s event happening entirely on Facebook Live, this year will feature both a stream and an in-person celebration. Restaurants participating in the event say it’s important that people stay safe by wearing masks and distancing at the event, but are happy to get some carry-over business from the event.

“it’s good that it’s back in person this year we just have to practice our safety precautions and hopefully everyone has their vaccinations and booster shots,” said Squeekeys Owner Orlena Wilkes.

While shopping is encouraged, the event will offer free Smith Island cakes, local oysters, and sparkling seltzer completely free of charge.

“It is all free so that’s what we love about it it’s genuinely a community event,” Samis said.

For those looking to see Marshall the Muskrat this year, Samis tells us he will be diving from a brand new device assembled locally, adding to the festivities and ringing in the new year in style.
