Dover man facing multiple charges after home invasion shooting in Smyrna
SMYRNA, Del. – A Dover man is facing multiple charges after being arrested in connection with a home invasion shooting. 23-year-old Jehoshaphat Martinez allegedly opened fire in a home with children inside.
Police say around 7:35 p.m. on Friday officers responded to the 100 block of Lincoln Street for a reported shooting. When officers arrived, they say they made contact with a large crowd. Residents were able to help police identify Martinez as a shooter. Investigators found that Martinez entered a home without permission and began shooting at residents with a handgun while children were inside. Police found a handgun and shell casings on the scene. No one was hurt in the shooting.
Martinez was arrested without incident and arraigned by JP #7 court. He is now facing multiple charges, including possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, first degree home invasion, and two counts of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited. Martinez is also facing charges for carrying a concealed deadly weapon, seven counts first degree reckless endangerment, and criminal mischief over $1,000. He was taken to Sussex Correctional Institution on $98,000 cash bond pending a future court hearing.
