TRAPPE, Md. - A bank robbery and pizza usually doesn't go hand-in-hand, but a Trappe, Md. restaurant ushers in a new era for the small town with a little flavor from its past.

On April 2nd, 1932, three men went into the then State Bank of Trappe Bank and stole $1,800. Several days later, the robbers were caught and confessed to the crime.

It remains a folklore for a small Talbot County town with 1,077 residents, according to the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau.

"All my life, I have heard the about the bank robbery that occurred here," said Charles Adams Jr., who was born the same year as the robbery.

On Saturday, Brenda Tighe and volunteers teamed up to recreate the bank robbery for the grand opening of her new pizza restaurant, State Bank of Trappe Pizza Company.

Tighe says she the reenactment was all for the older residents like Adams Jr. who remember Trappe for what it was.

"Back in the 1930s, this was actually a vibrant town," said Tighe. "It was alive and prosperous."

But as the community holds onto a part of its history, Tighe wants to move town forward. Two years ago, she bought the old building, which was used for section eight housing.

"It went through a really bad time where it was section eight housing and drug deals on the corner and slowly, everyone wanted to renovated and bright life back to downtown Trappe."

She's confident her business is guaranteed to bring more foot traffic to the area.

"It's the type of pizza you'll drive an hour for," Tighe exclaims about her new food.

Residents from across Delmarva came to the restaurant to try out her new food. Chuck Neal of Salisbury, Md. says he comes to Trappe every once in a while, "but we may even start coming here more often."

The State Bank of Trappe Pizza Co. is located on Main Street in Trappe.
