The Worchester Prep Fighting Mallards started off the Governors Challenge Basketball Tournament on Saturday morning taking on Kings Christian.The Eagles jumped out to an early lead taking a 15-10 lead after the first quarter of play and continued to hold onto the lead at half, 28-20. Kings Academy continued to push on throughout the third quarter, but there was a momentum change in the fourth quarter.The Fighting Mallards stayed true to their name and after trailing, 41-27 heading into the fourth quarter, Worcester Prep pushed their way back into the game. Between Patrick Petrera, Tucker Brown, and Sam Cantello - the Mallards got back within 2 points, but Kings Christian closed out the game and sealed the win after Hestro Johnson knocked down two free-throws, 47-43 the final.
The Parkside Rams have been undefeated throughout the season in the Bayside, but Theodore Roosevelt came to town on Saturday for the Governor's Challenge and stirred things up in Salisbury.The game was very even throughout the first quarter, but Roosevelt took a 2 point lead in the first quarter - and extended that lead to 7 points heading into the locker rooms at halftime, 39-32. However, coming back from half, the Warriors put on a show scoring 26 points in the third quarter alone and held the Rams to just 7 points to make it a 60-39 game heading into the 4th quarter. The Rough Riders continued to push on throughout the 4th to hold onto the lead and notch the win, 76-50 over Parkside.
