Hello there Delmarva!

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had some level of interest in meteorology that only grew with time. When a summertime thunderstorm rolled through, you could see me looking out of the window, or I may be bracing the elements outside during a wind storm. The enthusiasm has always been there. A few events that really solidified my passion for meteorology were the October 2011 snowstorm that hit the northeast and Hurricane “Superstorm” Sandy. I experienced these events firsthand and it was wild. I knew I wanted to immerse myself in the weather for the rest of my life from that point.

I decided to attend school at Western Connecticut State University after hearing about their meteorology program. During my time there, I was an active student broadcaster during my last few semesters and filmed weather broadcasts in front of their green screen that were posted on our department’s YouTube channel and social media pages. I also had the privilege on attending many special events with our meteorology club including the American Meteorological Society (AMS) conferences of 2019 and 2023 and the Northeast Storm Conference in 2022. I graduated with my bachelors of Science in Meteorology in December, 2022.

During the summer of 2022, I had the pleasure of interning at NBC 10 WJAR in Cranston, Rhode Island. Fast-forward to post graduation, I then got my first professional job outside of college in March 2023 as a part-time meteorologist at WNYT NewsChannel 13 in Albany, New York, filling in for the station when needed. Then in July 2023, I joined 47 ABC WMDT as the new Weekend Meteorologist!

During my free time, I love to take nature walks, bike, explore different restaurants, and hang out with friends and family. I also find photography very fun! So, if you got any great photos that you want to share (weather or not!), shoot me an email at erich_ahlf@wmdt.com.
