Gas prices increasing in Maryland, nationwide

DELMARVA – If you’ve been on the roads, you may have noticed gas prices rising recently.

Right now, the National Average Stands at $3.38 a gallon, that’s up 6 cents since last week. Here in Maryland, the average is at$ 3.36 a gallon, that’s up 8 cents since last week. We’re told usually at this time we see gas prices trend downward in the fall, sort of after Labor Day, but that’s not the case this year.

“Unfortunately, with the price of crude oil trading at over $80 dollars per barrel and the demand for gasoline beginning to pick up we probably will not see any relief unfortunately at the pumps for some time,” Ragina Ali, Public and Government Affairs Manager at AAA Mid-Atlantic, said.

We’re told in October we have seen the highest gas prices not only here in Maryland but across the country since 2014, and as we come closer to the Thanksgiving Holiday, we could expect to see gas prices continue to trend higher if the same factors continue.

Once gas prices reach a certain peak, AAA says it usually sees consumers cut back spending in other ways. But, they said even with that said we’re told these high prices don’t stop people from traveling around the Thanksgiving Holiday.
