Police Search For Suspect After Armed Robbery, Bomb Scare

Princess Anne Police are still looking for the suspect behind an armed robbery and bomb scare this morning.

Around 9:30 AM, police say a man walked into the BB&T Bank near Mount Vernon Road with a box and placed it by the entrance. Shortly after, he reportedly approached the teller, demanded money, and left with an undisclosed amount. As he left, police say he told the tellers that the box had a bomb in it.

Chief Scott Keller says he called in officers who received bomb training.

“Anytime you get a bomb threat you have to treat it like a real bomb. The State Fire Marshal Bomb Unit got there, determined that it was not a bomb, that there were just a few useless articles inside the box, and deemed the area safe.”

As a result of the scare, Somerset County Public Schools had both Greenwood Elementary School and Princess Anne Elementary School under code yellow, but it has since been lifted. Code Yellow means that school operations and instruction will continue as usual, but all doors and window are locked, with the shades closed. Nearby businesses were also evacuated, but returned to work shortly after.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore alerted students, reportedly describing the suspect as a 40-year-old black male, 5′ 9″ tall, around 200 pounds, last seen wearing a white pullover, jeans, and a black toboggan style hat. Police also confirmed that description, and say they are actively investigating his whereabouts.

Anyone with information should call the Princess Anne Police Department 410-651-5452.
