Police Investigating Two Armed Robberies

Police are searching for suspects after two armed robberies in Wicomico County on Friday morning.

The first robbery happened around 9:00 a.m. Salisbury police say a male suspect last seen wearing a mask, dark colored hooded sweatshirt, and a white baseball hat with “Troy” written on the brim, entered the Hebron Savings Bank on Riverside Drive. We’re told he fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

Shortly after, another armed robbery and also at a Hebron Savings Bank, 18 miles away in Sharptown. The call was first reported to the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, around 10:00 a.m. After brandishing a pistol, we’re told a man demanded money and fled with cash.

Authorities tell us, it’s too soon to tell whether these two armed robberies are connected but they are not ruling out any possibilities.

According to Captain Rich Kaiser of the Salisbury Police Department, it appears armed robberies are not uncommon during the holiday season.

“People start to feel desperate and will do desperate things. This is the reason why we always increase our man power around this time. I would say that we have seen a large increase in the robberies of recent and a lot of that can be attributed to the holiday season.” Explains Captain Kaiser.

Lieutenant Tim Robinson of the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office agrees.

“Historically, yes.” Says Lieutenant Robinson. “We have seen some increases in robberies armed during the holiday season as some people are getting desperate.”

Despite the increase in crime during the holiday season, there are ways community members can help. Authorities say staying alert and knowing what to do before crime happens are big steps.

“I just want to remind everyone to remain extremely vigilant this time of year and aware of your surroundings and if you see anything suspicious, please don’t hesitate to contact the sheriff’s office or your local police department.” Explains Lieutenant Robinson.

As of right now, the Wicomico County Bureau of Investigation is handling the Sharptown robbery. Anyone with information should contact 410-548-4898.
