Overnight crash in Queen Anne’s Co. kills VA family

Three adults, two children, and an unborn child – all members of an Accomack County, Virginia family – were killed early Saturday morning when their car and a tractor trailer collided on Route 50 in Queen Anne’s County, according to state police.
Around 1:15 a.m., Maryland State Police at the Centreville Barrack received calls from motorists reporting a crash at the intersection of Rt. 50 and Rt. 213 in Wye Mills. Responding troopers reportedly found the car and the overturned tractor trailer on the south side of eastbound Route 50., near Chesapeake College. They say the tractor trailer rolled over the car before coming to a rest.
According to police, 24-year-old Regina Ayres, 25-year-old Travis Straton, 7-year-old Jordan Ayres, and two-month-old Jonathan Ayres were pronounced dead on the scene. We’re told 30-year-old Zerissa Ayres was transported by ambulance to Easton Memorial Hospital, where both she and her unborn child were pronounced dead.
The tractor trailer driver, 28-year-old Yvenet Mayette of Wilmington, Delaware was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he is being treated for injuries.
A cause of the crash remains under investigation. At this time, there is no indication that alcohol was a factor.
