Inmate involved in 2017 prison riot allegedly assaults SCI officers in Georgetown

Officials report that an inmate, involved in the 2017 prison uprising, was involved in an assault against an officer, on Friday evening, in Georgetown.
Geoff Klopp, President of the Correctional Officers Association of Delaware, says on Friday, one of the inmates charged in the 2017 uprising assaulted officers at Sussex Correctional Institution.
According to Klopp, after 7:00 PM, the inmate struck two officers in the face. Four officers were reportedly injured in total. Klopp reports that the incident happened after the inmate refused to return to his cell after performing duties.
Officials say one of the officers' glasses were broken and the inmate was not injured.
In reference to the staffing of Delaware correctional institutions, Klopp says the correctional institutions continue to be understaffed, and there are 100 less officers than there were when Lieutenant Floyd was killed.
